Who was Ronnie J Roybal
Ronnie enlisted in the United States Army on August 29, 1974, and joined the 1st of the 509th Infantry-Airborne Battalion, in Vicenza, Italy. He received his high school diploma in Vicenza, while serving. He worked as an Electrical Maintenance Technician at the Denver Zoo for 40 years.
Ronnie was married to his wife Christina Roybal for 35 years. Ronnie and Christina raised their family of four kids, later welcoming their children’s spouses, and growing the Roybal legacy through their eight grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cheering on all Colorado sports teams (Broncos are forever ‘Super Bowl bound’), throwing ‘shoes’ (horseshoes), and being the biggest cheerleader for his grandkids. He was involved in various charities and organizations, as well as participating in walks such as the March of Dimes and Race for the Cure.
Ronnie became a charter member with Dr. Aubrey Lavizzo (founder and veterinarian at The Center for Animal Wellness), Doug Meyers, Garrett Bishop, Eleo Casil, and retired Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen to honor Veterans through the ‘Armed Forces Day of Service’ in partnership with the Volunteers of America Veteran Services.
The 2025 Armed Forces Day will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
In honor of Ronnie’s unwavering commitment and dedication to service, following his death in November of 2023, the ‘Armed Forces Day of Service’ was renamed:
“Ronnie J Roybal Armed Forces Day of Service”.
